A class production

Letting children explore the myriad of roles involved in making a film gives them critical insight into just what goes into making their favourite blockbuster.

Explain to the children that they are going to make a film. You might want to touch on the different types of films that there are (live action, animation and so on).

Now talk to the children about the different roles involved in film-making. How many different jobs can they think of? A good way of demonstrating just how many people it takes to make a film is to show the end credits of just about any live-action film. Even when a film only has a handful of actors, there are countless other critical people involved in the production. Film making is a perfect example of team work. Below are some of the key roles – children could use the internet to research others. Ask the children to think about which of the roles suits their personality. Stress how important each person is; working as a team is incredibly important and being supportive and helpful is vital to the success of a film.
