Number properties
Ask the children, ‘if you were a number, what number would you be and why?’ or ‘what is your favourite number and why is it your favourite?’.
These questions will generate lots of discussion, the children will be keen to air their ideas and give their own reasons for their choices. Children cannot give incorrect answers to these questions so this should give the less confident children a chance to shine. They will feel a sense of ownership over their ideas and you can stimulate their discussions by differentiated questioning.
