Snowy weather is a great way into collage work for all ages. Collect coloured scraps, then cut, tear, curl, fold, arrange and away you go.

The magical, wintry scenes of The Christmas Wish lend themselves beautifully to collaborative collage work. Begin by arranging the children into groups and agreeing which scene from the story each group will recreate. If the children completed the ‘Magical settings’ activity (see ‘Explore the story’), they could create a collage version of the setting they worked on, or they may prefer to capture a different story scene. Children could assign tasks within their groups – for example, two children could create a background, which could be quite abstract, while another pair creates a different character each.
